Tottenham are growing increasingly confident that Harry Kane and Dele Alli will be fully fit in time to take on Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of their Champions League last 16 tie in three weeks time.

The duo are definitely out of Wednesday night’s first leg, yet the English pair have recovered faster than expected following the injuries they sustained back in mid-January.

Kane was not due to return as quick after picking up an ankle injury against Manchester United, with the scheduled mid-March return being fast forwarded, such is the 25-year-old’s rate of recovery. According to the Telegraph, he could even feature against Burnley in the Premier League on 23 February.

It also means that Kane should be back for the crucial Premier League matches against Arsenal and Chelsea, as Spurs still harbour an outside chance of winning the league this season, currently sitting just five points off league leaders Manchester City.

Meanwhile, Alli is still working in the gym, recuperating from a hamstring strain, and is likely to return in time to face Dortmund on 5 March, as the Bundesliga leaders are five points clear of nearest challengers Bayern Munich.

While neither star will take part on Wednesday at Wembley, they aren’t the only players that Mauricio Pochettino will be missing for the crunch tie. Jan Vertonghen is set to fill in at left back, with Ben Davies and Danny Rose out with groin and shin injuries respectively.

Spurs set up their last-16 clash after finishing runners-up to Barcelona in their group, but their injury-hit squad faces a tough task of overcoming the German giants, in what will be their 20th match since the beginning of December.
