Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes that the club proved that “they are back where they belong” and should be reckoned as a force to be reckoned with in Europe following their 3-1 win on aggregate over two legs against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League.

A Sadio Mane brace and a Virgil van Dijk strike was enough for the visitors to secure their passage to the quarter-final stage, with Bayern only managing to score a solitary goal which came courtesy of a Joel Matip own goal.

Klopp believes that Liverpool’s run to the finals last season and their result on the night shows that they should be considered among the elite clubs of Europe.

“Scoring three here is really difficult – actually we scored four because we scored the other one as well!. It’s a big, big step for us. We will see what we can do with it but it’s a fantastic sign, I love it,” Klopp said post the game.

“We again set a mark for this wonderful club, that we really are back on the landscape of international top football. We all think that’s where this club belongs and tonight we proved it at least a little bit. I’m really happy about the result. I knew we had a chance and the boys made it happen.”

Klopp’s side are on course for a historic season as they are currently also in the race for a first Premier League title with the Reds currently placed second in the league table with 73 points, one point behind leaders Manchester City.
