Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde has claimed that their Champions League quarterfinal clash against Manchester United would be attractive but difficult, and said that it would be an open tie.
United have been on a great run of games since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over the reins, and have only lost three matches since the turn of the new year. They are out of the FA Cup but still harbour hopes of winning the Champions League.
As such, Valverde does not think it would be easy for Barcelona to win against United, but is looking forward to playing the English side in the quarterfinals.
“Difficult, but we knew any [draw] would be in the quarter-final of the Champions League. All teams have high hopes and fully deserve to be where they are,” Valverde said of the draw, according to Goal.
“United are a historic European, world team, as we are, so it’s an attractive tie and difficult. They’re stringing together good results at the moment, so it’s a very open tie that either side can win.
“They did well with a great result away to PSG, so we have to be careful. They do not give up and they were carrying a lot of injuries [against PSG], which they probably won’t against us. It’s one to look forward to.”
It remains to be seen who will come out on top, especially considering United have shown that they are capable of incredible comebacks, following their 3-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of the round of 16.
